Uruguay World Cup 2022 squad: Diego Alonso annouces 55-man longlist for Qatar
The Uruguay World Cup 2022 squad announcement will be made soon, but Diego Alonso has already called up 55 players to a provisional squad.

The Uruguay World Cup 2022 squad will be announced by 14 November, the deadline by which FIFA must receive final lists.
But fans of La Celeste already have a good idea of who might be involved after Diego Alonso revealed a 55-man provisional list.
That will need to be cut down to a 26-man selection before the World Cup, though, where the Uruguayans have been drawn in Group H.
The two-time world champions, who reached the quarter-finals in Russia four years ago, are up against Portugal, Ghana and South Korea.

How many players are Uruguay allowed to take to the 2022 World Cup?
Uruguay were allowed to name 28 players in their squad for the 2021 Copa America due to the potential of COVID-19 outbreaks during the tournament.
National managers were allowed to bring 26 players to last summer’s European Championship for the first time at a major tournament, too, as a special measure brought in due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Now 26-player squads will return for the Qatar World Cup, an expansion from the usual 23-man teams.
When will the final Uruguay 2022 World Cup squad be announced?
The FIFA deadline for final squads to be submitted is 14 November.
Who will make the final Uruguay 2022 World Cup squad?
Luis Suarez is Uruguay's talisman and he will be the first name down on Aliou Cisse's squad list for the 2022 World Cup. He might not start alongside Edinson Cavani this time, though, with Benfica striker Darwin Nunez having emerged as an important player at international level.
Rodrigo Bentancur has impressed since moving to Tottenham in the January transfer window. He is one of several technically proficient midfielders that Uruguay has produced in recent years, along with Matias Vecino, Federico Valverde and Giorgian de Arrascaeta.
This will be Diego Godin's last World Cup, with the 36-year-old coming towards the end of his career. The veteran might not necessarily start in Qatar, with both Jose Gimenez and Ronald Araujo fighting hard for a place in Diego Alonso's XI.
